ReplyDeleteA. Body language is the amount of features that you use to communicate with people, share your emotions
ReplyDeleteB. We use body language when we need to show our attitude to the person or our mood. Sometimes we control it, sometimes it is subconscious. For example, when you speak with someone who annoys you, your body will show it: you can avoid eue contact, cross your arms, etc.
C. Our mood and temper influence on the way we use or body language. Bit it's important to understand that if someone avoids the eye contact, he/she doesn't like you. Maybe the person is just a bit shy.
Words: they have a great impact on the impression, it's the important part of communication.
Tone of voice: it can help to win somebody's favour or spurn the person, so be careful with it.
Gesture: it shows your attitude to the person, if you are interested in the conversation, it's better to use opened poses.
Facial Expression: it's simple, if you smile - it's positive, if you don't smile or express negative emotions, people can think that you don't like a conversation.
The way we sit or stand: it's the same, it's a big part of whole impression.
D. I'm not very conscious of my body language, people can read me as if I'm an open book. I can't control myself, so if I'm nervous, I'm jerkimg my leg or something like that.
E.I think, it doesn't matter, men and women can be conscious or unconscious of their body language, it depends on the person.
F. I think, I can read other people's body language, but not always, sometimes everything is obvious, sometimes it's not.
Hello Dasha,
Deletethanks for your explanation. I just wonder about the source(s) of information you have used to explain different features of the body language. You should be aware by now of the necessity to acknowledge the sources, are you?
Things to consider
the amount of features: "features" is pl; "amount" is used w uncountable Ns. Here's a very good explanation of how to use "amount" and "number": https://grammarist.com/usage/amount-number/
the v "to influnce" is used without a preposition; the N is used with "on": to have an ~ on smb/smth.
DeleteDo you remember where you found the expression "to spurn a person"? I have found the following explanation: https://www.quora.com/How-is-the-word-spurn-used-in-a-sentence. Can you check it to see whether you have used this word correctly.
DeleteHello, everyone!
ReplyDeleteKirill & I have found the discussion of The Body Language interesting. First of all, the body language is the thing that helps us to understand/ catch the current mood of the person who we are talking with. We can pay attention to the way how our intelocuter keeps his/her arms, legs, & it's also important to do 2/3 eye contact during our conversation. Kirill consider that the things that have the most impact on the how we communicate are gestures & facial expression, because they can show us a lot of information of the person's inner state in the moment of our conversation. I agree with Kirill, but I think that tone of voice isn't less important. For example, when we are in a good mood & have a positive attitude, our voice becomes higher. As for the point E, Kirill & I have vommon thoughts: women are more conscious of body language. Why? It's their nature to speculate about, for ex., how the others look at her & something like that.
Hello Dasha and Kirill,
Deletethanks for your post. It's good to know you have found the topic of discussion interesting.
Things to consider:
you referred to the body language" as "the thing", which is a way to define smth countable when/if you can't think of a more precise word to use. It's also a feature of infml style, and yes, comments in blogs can be written in informal style. However, you were trying to give a definition of a term, so I think you should have used a more precise word to explain what "body language" is. Can you check the following definitions I have found and decide which one suits the given context better from the point of view of style and, of course, clarity of the explanation:
Here's the definition from the Cambridge Dictionary: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/body-language (accessed 02.03.2019).
And here is the explanation of what it is taken from a personal blog:
http://www.all-about-body-language.com/what-is-body-language.html (accessed 02.03.2019) How reliable this source is and why do you think so?
Finally, here is the article "Body Language in the Communication Process" published on the Thoughtco website: https://www.thoughtco.com/body-language-communication-1689031 (accessed 02.03.2019) How reliable this source is and why do you think so?
Dear All,
ReplyDeletehere is the explanation of the tasks for the next class:
Online research task - Checking sources
Do you think the information in the infographic is all true?
Do you doubt any information presented in it? Explain why you doubt or believe the
information.
Here is what you should do:
1. Find the original sources of the information quoted in the infographic itself and
see if they really exist.
2. Try to find at least 2 sources that either support or contradict the information in the infographic.
Don't forget to note down the sources and the information you find. Make sure
to include the following details in your reference: URL, name of publication, author’s
name, date, etc.)
3. Search online and find 5 images of different people showing the different postures from the infographic.
• Think about how you can use these to create a questionnaire that will test people’s ability to
read the body language of these people.
• Create your questionnaire using http://www.typeform.com/
• Share your questionnaire with your peers: it'd be great if you asked some students from some other groups to complete it. The number of students that complete the questionnaire should be in the range of 9-10 students (more if you can get the answers from more people, let's say 12 to 15. It will make the results you will receive more representable.
• When the indicated number of people have completed the questionnaire build an
infographic to show your results.
• You can use one of these tools to create your infographic:
Both of these tools require registration, but I'm sure you will find using them useful. In the future, you can use them to make your presentations look more professional.
PS You need to register for one of these tools, not both. Choose the one that will seem easier to use. You can actually complete this task together with one of your peers. In this case don't forget to mention who you worked with.

In your post comment the results you will have receved. Explain whether you expected such results. Why or why not? Did anything surprise you in the results you received? What advice can you give to your peers and other people (if you ask them to complete your questionnaire) to make their body language more effective?
